Frequently asked questions

Is it really free for me?
Yes, smiltap is completely free for service professionals. No subscription, no fixed fees. The customer pays exactly your amount — nothing is added on their side. Our commission (6% + €0.30 per tip) is only taken when you trigger a transfer to your IBAN.
How do I get the money?
The money is collected via Stripe on the smiltap account. You trigger the transfer to your IBAN yourself, whenever you like, with no minimum. Our commission (6% + €0.30 per tip) is deducted at that point, and the rest reaches your IBAN within 1 to 2 business days.
Does the customer need to download an app?
Not at all. The customer scans your QR code with their regular camera. A web page opens, they choose the amount and pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay or card in under 10 seconds.
Can I use it as a team?
Yes. “Team” mode lets restaurants and bars share the tips received on a counter QR code between all active staff, equally and automatically.
Is it legal and declared?
smiltap complies with the law of every country where it’s offered. In France, tips received through a platform like ours are exempt from social contributions and income tax for most employees in the hospitality sector (PACTE law, 2022); elsewhere, the rules vary from country to country. We provide clear summaries for your accounting.
What if I lose my QR code?
Your QR code is always available in your dashboard. You can download or print it again as many times as you like, for free.
